Michael Dodds, Associate Professor of Music History at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, earned his Ph.D. in musicology at the Eastman School of Music. His book From Modes to Keys: The Organ in Baroque Liturgy (Oxford University Press, forthcoming) proposes a model for change in modal theory and practice between the 16th and 18th centuries. In recent papers and articles Dodds has explored topics as diverse as the symbolism of musical canons in Seicento paintings and the mapping and navigation of tonal space in the Age of Discovery. Dodds is the recipient of numerous awards, including fellowships from the U.S. Fulbright Commission, National Endowment for the Humanities, and, most recently, Yale University’s Institute of Sacred Music.
